More Info: Means "Black Gold" in Spanish, which is an incredibly appropriate name for this fruit. It was a seedling sprout discovered in a commercial avocado grove here in Miami-Dade county, Florida in 1989 by grower Mike Hunt. He introduced us to this variety after 20 years of evaluation deciding it has great potential for dooryard or commercial use. It is likely a Monroe seedling having a similar shape and season, but probably crossed with a Mexican type which would explain the black skin. The flesh is rich and buttery with a creamy texture that is sure not to disappoint.
